SICA'S HISTORY

The Southern Interior Construction Association is an amalgamation of the Kamloops & District Building Exchange and the South Okanagan Contractors Association. As membership in both organizations grew it became apparent that the two organizations could function more efficiently as one.

The Southern Interior Construction Association Timeline

In 1962 the two organizations merged and in 1969 SICA was registered under the Societies Act. SICA is a non-profit membership organization representing the construction industry in the southern interior of British Columbia.

1950 Formed
Formed by J.W. Dalrymple and H.S. Kenyon in Penticton.
1960 Expanded - Kamloops & District Building Exchange
Created by a group of contractors. The purpose was to create a central location for members to view plans.
1962 Joined Forces - Amalagamation
As the membership in both organizations grew, it became apparent that the two organizations could function more efficiently as one. SICA had 81 members at this time. Offices were set up in Bud Hannis building located at 141 Victoria Street in Kamloops and the Penticton office was in the Chamber of Commerce on Lakeshore Drive.
1967 Hired People
Growing Demands in Kamloops - The need to expand was facilitated with a full-time staff person in a self-contained building. The topic of the day was unifying the Bid Depository System and introducing trade classifications.
1969 Registered as an Association
Societies Act Registration - The Southern Interior Construction Association is registered under the Societies Act. Membership was at 131.
1972 Bid Depository
SICA added the Kootenays through the use of Bid Depository.
March 30 Aquired Property
Lead by Frank Luciani, we built the first SICA building in Kamloops at a cost of $55,000 with debentures purchased by the members at 9% interest.
1978 Scholarship Created
SICA commences the scholarship program. Today SICA's scholarships are named after our first president Howard Strong.
1995 First Female Chair
Promoted Inclusivity - SICA's first female chair, Linda Patterson, is elected.
2001 Served More Areas
Kelowna Building - SICA Kelowna moves into our current building on Commercial Drive.
2009 Celebrated Milestones
SICA celebrates our 40th anniversary.
2011 Move for Kamloops
We move into our newly built Kamloops building
2012 New Logo
Our branding is modernized with a new logo.
2019 Celebrated a Legacy
50 Year celebration of serving our members!
