SkilledTradesBC is a provincial government agency in British Columbia, Canada, that leads and coordinates the province’s skilled trades training system. It was previously known as the Industry Training Authority (ITA). The Skilled Trades Employment Program (STEP) in BC’s construction industry, operated by the BC Construction Association, connects job seekers, particularly from underrepresented groups, with employers needing skilled trades apprenticeships. STEP provides pre-screening, soft skills training, and ongoing support to ensure job seekers are prepared for entry-level roles and understand the apprenticeship process. The StrongerBC program is a British Columbia government initiative focused on helping people and families cope with economic challenges and build a stronger future for the province. It encompasses various initiatives, including the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant, which provides funding for short-term skills training.

The StrongerBC future skills grant is available to most British Columbians and covers up to $3,500 in eligible short-term skills training at public post-secondary institutions. Funding is provided by LNG Canada and administered through the BC Construction Association. Designed specifically to support industry and apprenticeship training for trades in Northwest BC, the LNG Canada Trades Training Fund will be of particular interest to employers with less than 150 employees in BC who would like help covering costs of Foundation or Apprenticeship training for an employee interested in developing their skills in high demand trades.
