SICA Advocates for you!

Our unique place in the industry allows the concerns of even our smallest members to be heard. We continue to address relevant topics locally, provincially through the BC Construction Association, and nationally through the Canadian Construction Association.

Let us know your concerns!

Industry Priorities

Our advocacy efforts across British Columbia are centered on the key concerns of construction employers. We partner with the four Regional Construction Associations to address local issues, the BCCA for provincial matters, and the Canadian Construction Association for federal and national priorities.

Workforce Development

Workforce development is essential for the construction industry, providing training and education to address the skilled labour shortage. Investing in these programs ensures a steady supply of qualified professionals, fostering industry growth and economic resilience.

Prompt Payment

SICA and its industry partners will continue to advocate for legislative change as the best way forward for BC’s construction industry, the economy, and the people of British Columbia.

Procurement Modernization

The federal government’s procurement strategy is outdated, stifling creativity and fair risk-sharing.

Removal of Contract "A"

Established by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1981, “Contract A” ensures fairness and transparency between owners and bidders. Its absence raises concerns of bid shopping, unequal treatment, increased risks for bidders, and potential legal and reputational damage for public sector owners.
